Pre-IPO Placement

Placement of some percentage of an initial public offering (IPO) with prior investors, prior to the IPO. The price of shares is lower, attracting large investments by private equity or hedge funds. Typically, a lock-in period prevents the investors from selling quickly at a higher price.
