Plus Tick Rule

SEC rule requiring short sales to be made only on an uptick or zero-plus tick. The purpose of the rule is to prevent traders from being able to force prices downward by borrowing stock and then selling it. This rule was eliminated on July 6, 2007. also called short sale rule.
