New York Stock Exchange

the leading stock exchange in New York, which is self-regulatory but has to comply with the regulations of the US securities and exchange commission. It has its origins in the buttonwood agreement of 1792. It merged with Archipelago in 2006, and then with Euronext in 2007 to form the nyse euronext group.
