Meaning / Definition of
Initial Public Offering Spinning
Categories: Ipos,
The controversial practice by investment bankers of allocating shares of an initial public offering (IPO) to individuals representing client or prospective client companies in order to gain favor for future business. IPOs, especially in the hot ipo market of the 1990s, were seen as a "sure thing" because the share prices of the IPO company would jump immediately after the offering.
