Fast Tape

A type of futures market trading situation that will occur when the trading on a particular contract is so active that an accurate price quote in unable to be given. This is due to the fast and large number of transactions that are occurring in the trading pit or ring. Therefore, the fast tape will instead provide a range of prices that are marked by the word "fast," letting investors know that the market is moving quickly.
